The StarGuard Elite Instructor Development Course (IDC) is designed to prepare StarGuard Elite Instructors to provide a quality education program for lifeguards, using experiential activities based upon adult learning principles, and an emphasis on understanding and utilizing effective facilitation skills.
The Instructor Development process includes an online self-study course and a face-to-face course conducted by SGE Faculty. Instructor candidates will review proper rescue techniques that can be used in a variety of aquatic settings and the most effective ways to educate new and experienced aquatic rescue personnel.
The StarGuard Instructor Development Course (IDC) is designed to train new StarGuard Instructor candidates, cross-over existing lifeguard instructors from another agency, reauthorize StarGuard Instructors, and upgrade Instructor status.
Instructor Candidates are expected to have exceptional current content knowledge, skill mastery, the ability to follow written and verbal directions, and demonstrate the ability to lead and motivate in a professional manner.
1 Star Instructor: New Instructor that has never taught lifeguarding. May co-teach under the mentorship and guidance of a 2 Star Instructor or above.
2 Star Instructor: Experienced Instructor. May teach alone. Can cross-over as a 2 Star if currently certified as a lifeguard instructor from another lifeguarding program.
3 Star Instructor: Instructor Trainer. Must attend regional or custom IDC every two years. May certify new lifeguard instructors within Training Center. May recertify 1 and 2 Star Instructors within Training Center. The specific procedure for becoming an Instructor Trainer may be found in the Lifeguard Portal Document Repository.
4 Star Instructor: SGE Faculty as Instructor Trainer or Auditor. This is by invitation only.
5 Star Instructor: SGE International Faculty. Entry by invitation only.
If you complete the online portion less than 48 hours prior to class please bring printed documentation.
This is not a refresher lifeguard class.
You are expected to be proficient at CPR and water skills as a participant in this course.
